Sick Hammond cancels tour

THE Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr has cancelled his solo Australian tour because of a severe throat infection.

The Frontier Touring Company said Hammond had lost his voice and had been advised against performing by his doctor.

The New York singer's tour was due to start in Melbourne on Wednesday, followed by shows in Sydney, Brisbane and the Splendour in the Grass music festival this weekend.

Patrons holding tickets for the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane shows can seek a refund from the original point of sale.

Frontier said in a statement it hoped to reschedule the concerts later in the year.
